Feel the fear and do it anyway
Robert Okao
17th November 2015

We had a great meeting on the 17th November 2015. The theme of the evening was "Fear, Feel the Fear and do it Anyway" (based upon a book by Susan Jeffers).

Excellent prepared speeches were delivered by speakers listed below:-

Alan Batup- Project # 1; “Can I make a film”, very motivating speech that won him best speaker. The resounding answer from the audience on the night was ‘Yes he can’.

Beverley Christopher – Project # 3 “What a Nightmare”; very powerful speech that resonated with all in the audience on the night.

Brian Moffatt – Project # 7 “From A to B”, a Physics lesson; be it sound travel, light beam bouncing off the mirror and momentum. Sound travel demonstrated brilliantly by our Woky speakers very own president Mell Sheppard.

Monika and Alan receiving their awards from President, Mell
Amanda Bouch – “Who is Amanda Bouch?” An accomplished speaker re-running through her Competent Communicator manual speech one, great speech about who Amanda Bouch is (Development coach, business owner, project manager....just the many HATS that she wears).

Daniel Roberts was the Table Topics Master and gave some challenging topics (relating to theme of the evening) for all to answer!

Therese Edkins, Steve Catchick, Cherif Hemici and Rachel Tinker evaluated the speakers and gave some excellent feedback and tips. Asha Narasimha provided feedback as table topics evaluator.

Nadir Ahmed was grammarian and provided a very colourful summary of the language used and of course of the dreaded ahh’s and umm’s! The word of the day was Kaizen – which surprisingly worked very well.

Mell Sheppard gave a very thorough and useful summary of the evening as general evaluator.

Best table topic speaker was awarded to Monika and best evaluator went to Therese Edkins

A very enjoyable evening with some excellent speeches and lots of tips to help every member improve their public speaking!

We had a great meeting on the 3rd November 2015. The theme of the evening was favourite seasons – no surprises that summer won hands down!

Daniel Roberts and Jo Thayer both delivered excellent prepared speeches. Daniel did his second project from the Competent Communication manual and Jo completed project nine which means that the Competent Communication Award is around the corner!

We were also joined by Maria James from Camberley Toastmasters and Chris Boden from Maidenhead Speakers. Maria will be delivering her humorous speech the district final in Swindon this weekend (we had great fun listening to her speech this evening!) and Chris is a table topics district finalist. We had a entertaining and educational Q&A session with them during which we were able to get some great tips!

Deborah Broadhurst was the Table Topics Master and gave some challenging topics for all to answer! Nadir Ahmed, Beverley Christopher, Steve Catchick and Randip Chhokar evaluated the speakers and gave some excellent feedback and tips.
